Ok in dire need of help, My 03 3.0 Diesel Manual with 112k full Isuzu history died today.

Circs:  Jumped in truck started as usual with a puff of white smoke, then after picking wife and dog that had snapped its leg in two places (hopefully surgery tomorrow) on way to vet on dual carridegway the following happened:

Car was sluggish having trouble getting to 70mph in fifth,  it felt like it was uneven, dropped it to fourth,  started to shudder, lost power and loads of smoke out of the back (exhaust),  coasted to a stop,  engine still running lumpy then turned it off, engine kept on running then reved really high so I stalled it to stop it.

Got car recovered.

Popped bonnet and there is a pipe that for the life of me cant find out where it goes.   I will try to post pictures but will have to do typed description first....

Looking into engine bay form the front there is the big battery to the left.  Behind the battery there are four rubber pipes. all pipes either go into or leads from two electrical connectors.

One is blue the other is black.

The one that goes into the upper bit of the blue  connector is approx. 12 inches in length and is sleeved (it is inside another thicker piece of tube)  it is connected to the blue sensor (the other bit on the blue goes to a small white drum thing)  but I simply can not find where the other end of this sleeved pipe should go.

It all just seems way to coincidental so hoping that finding out where this pipe fits will sort the problem.

Help please Smile

No smell of diesel on dipstick...oil smells like oil and no smell of diesel in the rad,  just browsing and trying to get ahead of the game.

Love the trooper but do need it to work ! Sad

sounds like turbo gone, take the black intake pipe off the turbo and wiggle the impeller there should be little to no sideways movement if it flops around like a sausage up an ally then it's knackered

Thank you very much for the quick reply.

I will give it go but wont be until tomorrow or Thursday... would the turbo just suddenly go?   save for the smoke on strat up no smoke or anything else....but will dwf take your advice.

Any idea about that pipe pipe on the blue bleu electrical connector?

 Cheers

the turbo's snap the impeller shaft just behind the exhaust side and it drops down the ex pipe, it's a turbo off job but it's easy to reach with long nose pliers as it sits on top of the quick warm up flap.
the pipe sounds like a vac pipe for the quick warm up flap which is controlled by those actuators you mentioned, it's no issue if it's disconnected

its the oil level ok? if so take the turbo off and look to see if the exhaust impeller is still there, if it's high then you got problems with either injector or head. for it to rev up it's run on oil somewhere so either it's being pumped in by the oil feed for the turbo or it's sucking it in the breather pipes because the level is to high

It may help in the diagnosis.

When started oil pressure bang on half way then when when warm it drops.

Not started gt though since the incident though

Cheers

Hi
Ignore that, all engines oil pressure drops a bit when oil warms and gets thinner.

Removed intercooler to make access bit

Just checking before I go spanners on:

Four 12mm bolts off at rear of turbo

Bolt on top of turbo that goes through metal pipe off 10mm.  Anti clock wise? Think it's a banjo

Also the above pipe may need to undone at other end to remove to enable turbo to pull out

Bolt long and thick that goes from side of turbo to engine. Looking at top from turbo side which way does this turn?

I have pics and will try to pop up.

Am I on the right track

I have sprayed some penetration fluid and letting it soak as don't want to snap

cheers

Bm

Oh and thanks re oil pressure gauge

your on the right track remember the oil drain pipe at the bottom of the turbo i undo the 2x 10mm bolts that hold it to the turbo. also on yours you should have a bracket that is bolted to the bell housing and then a single 14mm bolt in to the bottom of the turbo.
