Now I'm slightly confused ...

Did flash code check this morning.
Only got one code - 43.

That is with the braking system warning light on all the time.[mine is non-ABS by the way]

At time of test the CEL was NOT on -  so possibly it was a "B" code that does not get stored ?

Flash Code 43 seems to be either "Crank sensor out of sync." or "Crank sensor no signal."

But it starts and runs OK. [Never 'not started' since returning from eithan.]

Mmmmm.....I had a half arsed idea that maybe T2 was giving a false code and that perhaps the intermittent CEL was our old friend the throttle body   Embarassed  Embarassed  Embarassed

Perhaps clear the codes and look again  Question  Question  Question  Question

Ps.....No intention to tread on Eithans toes  Smile

tread away i've not seen one with an unknown code before so i'm learning as well!

it uses both cam and crank for starting and generally won't start if they are out of sync but it trys to start by firing the injectors in the firing order but without seeing the cam it's only guessing at what cylinder is on tdc so a lot of the time it won't start.
when it can see both sensors and it fires up it switches off the cam sensor so you can disconnect it when the engine is running and it makes no difference to it it will carry on running it won't stall or anything.

Thanks both.

I was 'puzzled' because seeing the brake warning light only at the time - I thought I'd get a code that related to brakes. Silly me.

Will try clearing it.

Just to add to my tiny woes - I noticed today the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir was going down ... topped up but will have to get under and look for a leak.
Still enjoying driving it though !

At least I can claim to have sorted the 'over-voltage charging' with advice from the local firm and the new wire piggy-backed in place.

I'd have Edited if I could ...

The alternator testing chap demonstrated that with no S wire (battery volts) signal the alternator charges at its pre-set limit.

In both cases - old and 'newer' - this produced a reading of 15+ volts.

Thought I'd better add - brake warning light was coming on if brake fluid level dropped slightly.

Discovered a tiny weep on OSF caliper - explaining slow loss of fluid so 'warning' to be expected.

Odd because I'd already fitted a brand new piston and seal kit to both front calipers.  [ Chinese 'cheese' ??]

Have now got another new seal kit.
