|
|
I was driving home when at about 3000 rpm a strange noise appeared. It was like putting a straw in a fan. But it dissapeared as soon as I took my foot of the acceleration and the engine fell under 3000 rpm. Pushed the acceleration again and at 3000 rpm the same noise.
A second later the engine stops.
I open the hood and I notice some brown liquid was squirting in the engine bay, could not see the source.
The engine refused to start again.
I open the radiator cap and brown, somewhat sludgy, liquid bursts out.
Now the engine refuses to start and if it does, it instantly dies.
Is it the gasket? Oil in the coolant? Or something more sinister?

P.S the engine was working perfectly before it happened. No loss of power, no nothing. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

Update.
There is a ton of oil in the air intake, just after the filter and the turbo is filled with oil.
Anyone?
Ideas?
Thank you. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

A bit high, over the mark on the dipstick but I don't know why. It was not overfilled with oil when the oil was changed. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

Here is a clip showing the turbo shaft play.

play looks a bit to much to me it might have sheared the exhaust impeller off and dropped it down the exhaust pipe which then allows the seals to leak, did it rev up at all on it's own? a high oil level could be diesel in the oil from either a cracked head or a leaking injector |

Yeah, it did rev on it's own but only for a brief second. I was about to put it in 5th and slam the brake but the engine stopped in it's own.
I have started taking things appart. Both impellers are intact but yeah, it does have some ugly play.
The oil smells of diesel way to hard, you are most likely right about the diesel in the oil...
So I will get into the injectors and the gasket.
It still bothers me that there was so much yellow gunk in the radiator, the damn cooling liquid was rather new and there was no gunk when I changed it. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

Don't know who desinged the way the turbo is bolted to the engine but I hope he has nightmares about it for the rest of his life. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

if they are leaking internally then you won't see anything you will have to post them to me and i can pressure test them to see if theres any leaking. if the turbo is ok then it's started to suck up it's own oil due to the high oil level and the non start could be the orcv stuck, you will need to remove it and prod it with a scriber or similar to see if it's moving |

I'll get to the injectors as soon as I get the damn turbo to come out. The 3 bolts that keep it on the engine will not move. And there is very little room to work.
Orcv... oil rail control valve? Not familial with all the terms. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

Got the damn turbo to finally come out, upper screw was rounded so a chisel was perfect for splitting it open. The actuator was filled with oil, unsure if it won't ruin it in time, the blades are in perfect condition and tho there is some shaft play, nothing touches the blades so the turbo might have some life left in it.
Still can't figure out why or how the oil got in.
Also, tho the radiator cap was gunky and yellow goo spilled out of it, the cooling pipes that go to the turbo had perfectly clean coolant in them. A lot spilled out, not a drop of nasty goo. Wth? _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |

Got the turbo tested, it's working as it should. Not leaking, no nothing.
Still no other progress on the engine. _________________ I expect nothing. I fear no one. I am free. |
