Trooper engine just stopped after running for 45 secs at tickover and being harder to start.

Next morning I checked the fuel primer bulb and bleeder - seemed 'empty' - despite several gallons in tank.
Decided it was possibly the classic "leaky/dead" primer trying to pump fresh air. [Hoped it was NOT the fuel lines at the tank ...]

Tested pipe with a spare Mazda diesel filter/primer unit and it pulled through OK with no air. Filter thread incorrect though.

Initially put a fresh inline filter in place - then thought "I can do better than that - and I really would like a primer."

Went to local scrappy and got a working filter head/primer from a rusty Mitsubishi L200 Animal for £5.
Exactly the same two bolt spacing/fitting (but 12mm spanner needed to remove) and both pipes point downwards on early ones.
Later ones are wider bolt spacing and pipes are awkward.

Cleaned/tested it. OK.

Transferred newish and shorter Knecht KC59 filter from old Isuzu unit (same thread luckily ... unlike the Mazda head - 20mm x 1.5 ?) as could not fit the long Mitsubishi filter [with the water trap at the bottom].

Fitted/primed/bled and Trooper started after a couple of turns and kept running.

Probably spoke too soon  ...

Today found it hard to start. Lots of cranking - no firing.
Raised bonnet and found primer took several pumps to get back up to 'hardness'. Started pretty promptly then.

Beginning to suspect it is a pinhole/leak back problem.

Will have to investigate [but at least it has not stopped on me - yet !].
