Found this comment on an American site :- "Since it's not recommended to operate a diesel engine without a water separator, ..."

But my 4JX1 3.0 has a plain fuel filter with no water seperator. Is that standard?

Not sure now which spelling is correct ... "seperator" or "separator" ...

Excuse my lack of knowledge here, but would it matter if the "old type" fuel filter assy be fitted to the 4JX1 instead of the simple "oil filter type" cartridge unit?
I'm asking beacuse if it worked fine, then the filter could be drained easily and so any surplus of water would come out? Maybe even bleeding the filter would be more efficient?

Tried it with mine recently. The type of filter with a water trap on the bottom will not be a straight swap [not enough room thanks to nearside wing].

You would have to mount it elsewhere - probably make a bracket - certainly alter the pipes.

Thanks. So mine is standard.

Question I suppose is ... Where does the water end up ?

Some of it stays in the fuel tank ... took my level sensor out and the steel arm etc. were distinctly rusty[i]
