Hi all,

looking to extend the fuel return pipe on 2003 trooper to stop fuel flowing form the head to the tank to aid start up.  Question is what size is the fuel return pipe?  not sure but two choices... 6mm or 8mm ?

 Cheers

  BM

its 6mm but most people just fit a  non return valve which is only useful if the engine starts then dies again. if it's just cranking away without starting that usual points to other issues

It's a *beep* to start if been left standing overnight and reckon it's the diesel draining from injectors.

After the first start of the starts after two to three seconds with zero issues

And thanks again

to test first find the return hose and clamp it off with some grips when you have done your last journey then start it next morning with grips in place and see if it starts any better, just remember to remove the grips when it starts or it can blow the return hose off!!

Have you found it yet ?

It comes off the small iron casting that is held on the back of the head by two bolts [that also go through the rear engine lifting bracket] and an 'easily-breakable' banjo bolt. The casting is usually black, looks like an end-drilling is blocked off with a ball-bearing and the pipe outlet runs towards the front of the engine. It also has a sensor screwed into it. No need to touch any of it.

The return pipe comes off on the nearside, goes down, and is clipped to a metal pipe that runs under the Trooper and back to the fuel tank - by a clip that usually has two white plastic ears (to save your fingers from the sharper metal 'ears'). It is just possible a PO has changed this for a different type of clip.

Fair dues 02Trooper777 that is a great explanation.
I am suffering the same issue, priming 30 presses
ensures a clean start - otherwise fires briefly after 4 seconds and then needs cranking for 20+ seconds to
bring up fuel presumably.
Wondering exactly what changes over time to make the fuel start draining back.
Am I right to assume 6mm is the internal diameter of the rubber bit of the pipe ?

I believe (and hope it is NOT 'my problem' !) that a pipe or pipes into the tank at the rear develop pinhole rust spots or matching holes in the rubber tubes.
This results in air rather than diesel being in the system.

Should have added - I don't yet know if 6mm pipe is the size. Sorry.

eithan has posted diameter earlier.
"6mm" bore for the return pipe.

Feed pipe is 8mm.  [Milner's website confirms these sizes.]

My Trooper had the usual rusty/holey pipe on top of the tank.

Just 'lost' a lengthy explanation of how to take the tank off  --- website said "You cannot post so soon after another post".

Not doing it again. Life's too short.
