I have a 2002 tfs54 2.5td , 210,000miles I've owned it for 15 years and been all over europe with it , next week I want to set off on another trip to europe , it has strarted to play up , i have done all my own maintenance to it and know it fairly well
I serviced it last week and noticed the fuel filter quite dirty so I drained the tank by pumping it out via the line to the filter with an electric pump and then blasted air back down to the tank , nothing bad came from the tank , little to no water , refilled tank and dragged it through to new filter  and it started as normal
went about a mile last night and it started playing up like it was drawing air in , have swapped and changed allsorts  still the same .
If you pump the hand pump until solid it starts and runs for  11 / 20 seconds before cutting out .
another point is it doesn't start so well in winter(colder) weather , always starts but lumpy and a puff of smoke before settling down but is noisy (tractor like) in summer it starts perfect , once engine warms up it runs quiet and smooth  .
is this all related to pump and cold start system  on it
any help appreciated
I'm a bit gutted as this truck is like the 5th member of the family it's taken us anywhere and everywhere in any weather on or off road , closed roads  , snow drifts, floods all over europe and is a work horse at home pulling and carrying vehicles country wide

sorted the problem , it was the fuel filter supplied by an Isuzu specialist on the net , I have bought plenty off them and all good . I have bought the service kit off them before and everything was fine, anyway I have contacted them and supplied them with photos  . the filter fitted fine and the water sensor fitted fine , the top had an extra seal around the thread which must have been causing a restriction to the fuel or letting air in somewhere
