This topic has been done to death in many ways, but I have questions still regarding preemptive action on the seals.

Has anyone out there actually replaced the seals without having had their engine blow up? I suspect that the recall work has been done on my engine (a '99 Wizard, 4JX1, with 100,000kms on the odometer) but can't be sure. Is there a list of parts, perhaps with approximate cost? Labour rates are quite good where I live, but there is no real diesel specialist. My mechanic felt confident about tackling injector seals, but is that all there is to it?

I am thousands of kms from the nearest Isuzu agent, so wandering around in the dark a bit. Doing the seals up might mean being able to keep the car for another few years.

Are you talking about valve stem seals or injector seals?

Injector seals, the ones which cause catastrophic engine failure.

youll need to remove the old injector, and either press or relocate new seals depending on their fitment.

Great, thanks. What do the seals cost in UK, and roughly how many hour labour are required to do the job? Are there any parts needed other than the seals themselves? It seems that everyone who has had this work done have done so in conjuntion with other work (like fixing blown motor:)) so the seal replacement cost is buried in other stuff.

I live in a very remote area with long lead time to order stuff in.

you also get modified injectors now to further prevent the problem. Youll maybe need these depending on the code present on yours.

One gets the modified injectors with what, a kit? Wouldn't new injectors make for an expensive upgrade? By codes, do you mean error codes? What if there are no error codes showing? I have an error code listing for our other car, also an import, presuming that the error code reading is the same (the engine check light flashing after bridging two terminals in diagnostic port) would it be worthwhile seeing if the Wizard has any eroor codes?

Cheers Very Happy
