This only seems to happen on a long run when towing the caravan which makes me think it might be overheating? What can i check to find out the cause of this? Once i have stopped for a while and everything has cooled down the gearbox is fine.

I guess the first thing to do is get a transmission temperature gauge fitted, that way you can see if it's overheating. Has it had a fluid and filter change recently? If not it might be worth a shot to do that first.

Yes its had fluid and filter change less than 500 miles ago. Could i fit the transmission temp gauge myself, any ideas what needs doing? Or is it a big job for a garage?
