Hi everyone
Well Just had a busy weekend, replaced brake hangers on the front because the pins were to far gone to clean up, new pins as well.
Now for the main problem I have a 1993 Opel Monterey 3.1Td. The oil seal on the steering box has blown twice in four months. Each time just before this goes i get a loud screeching noise, similar to the fan belt sliping. Is there a problem with the pump? to much pressure, can anyone help?
P.S. Thanks for all the post sent in by various members on the brake problems they were a great help.

Just a guess but i would think the squeeling is the lack of fluid, and thats when you notice its gone
Thats unless it sqeals when its full, then i wouldnt have a clue.
As for the cause, maybe there is a pressure bypass valve Question
I'm sure one of the more tech minded will give a proper answer Smile

Have you checked to make sure the return pipe hasn't got a kink in it or is blocked? That'd certainly not help!

to diagnose this you need to put a pressure gauge and cut off tap into the high pressure hose from pump to steering box and record the higest pressure if its higher than 1490psi then the pressure control valve inthe pump is defective if its lower then the vanes or the valve need replacing

Plenty of fluid, it only squeals prior to blowing a seal.
Cheers for the input. Smile

if you can`t get it tested then the easy way out would be to put a second hand pump on off a breaker that hasn`t got aproblem with the steering box

I need a seal for the output shaft on the steering box for my '98 3.1td LWB grey import, is it possible to get seal kits from main dealers (I can get a VIN number for my old car - a '95 M plate 3.1 Duty - from the current owner) ? Any help appreciated as the box is using almost as much ATF as the engine uses diesel (well nearly)

Hi kenny mac
I managed to buy my seal from a parts shop, i guess the seals are pretty standard. I am sure the size for the seal are 22 35 7mm.
hope this helps.
