|
|
Have just bought Trooper Bighorn 3.1 diesel (imported Japanese one). It is a 1994 L reg LWB Lotus suspension model. Can anyone tell me what kind of differentials it will have - normal or non slip? How will I be able to tell? I want to change the diff oils but realise you need to know the type of diff!

I had real trouble finding the right grade of oil for the LSD in my local factors/shops so ended up getting it from the Isuzu/Subaru dealer local to me. Took my own container and they filled it for me from their barrel. _________________ Phil

As someone mentioned in an earlier thread, jack it up under the diff, spin one wheel if the other turns it's an LSD _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

Not strictly true, jack it up spin one wheel, if the other wheel spins in the same direction it's got an LSD if it spins in the opposite direction it's an open diff, and even this isn't foolproof, the only sure way is to find the code or open the axle case up, ot try a burnout of course! _________________ Phil

Hmmn, I don't think mine would do a very good burn out
My LSD makes a bit of noise when pulling away on the turn (like a t junction) when towing. _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs

So does mine, I think the previous owner topped it up with normal oil, but it keeps soldiering one. We had a 4x4 Cherokee that had a detroit locker in and that made horrible noise when it locked/unlocked.
Last time I tried a burnout in the chevy I snapped the propshaft centre bearing off it's mounting, bust all the welds, oh well I guess thats 350 odd lb/ft of torque for you _________________ Phil

Whoops!
There was a label in mine that said some noise was normal, but like you say a normal EP oil will corrode the plates causing it to grab a bit.
Like you say doesn't seem to make any difference _________________ Front Aussie Locker - Rear LSD - Petrol Diffs
