I have a very small leak from the diff (1989 2.8 with LSD) looks like a new oil seal (pinion) so was wondering how tricky a job this is.

Any special tools for setting the backlash? that sort of thing.

Thanks,
Matt.

you dont need to set the backlash as its already set
mark the nut and pinion shaft then wind the nut off count the turns
hook the seal out tap the new seal in wind the nut on correct No of turns till marks aligned

you may need to make up a tool to stop the pinion flange turning
i have a long flat bar with two bolts in that go in the holes in the flange

Do these axles have the collapsable collar on the pinion?

yes they do can replace and then torque it to the correct llbs/ft but i have done it the way i explained never had a problem the backlash is set with shims between the pinion gear and the inner bearing so unless you are stripping it right down it can`t be altered
