AAAAAARRRRRGGGHHH!! Sad Sad

DO NOT DRIVE IT...................

Assuming it is a 3.0, this is a injector fault. Fuel is being mixed with the oil, and rising the level. If it gets too high it will over rev and blow the engine.

Recover to dealer and get it fixed ASAP

Regards

Nutter

or if it's not a 3.0 it could be down to knackered piston rings causing blowby meaning the crankcase is being pressurised and oil is finding it's way out of any convenient opening, bit like the morning after 18 pints and a vindaloo!

See my earlier topic which sounds like a similar problem

http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4092

This was cured by adjusting the pump timing, which stopped the oil rising, however, this was following an engine rebuild after which the pump timing was set incorrect. Your problem may also be related to injectors.

cheers lads
is it that serious , your scareing me Shocked

As markymoan says its a 3.1TD manual gearbox SWB , its done 193,000 miles.

the oil level is fine when cold (ie between the two dots on the dipstick) , the oils NOT pouring or leaking out of the dipstick tube at all .

it just seems to rise up at when running ( leaving a smear of oil on the stick ) , i only noticed this when i was checking the oil level a few times .

the engine is running fine starts first time , no smoke ,tiny bit of grey-ish smoke if i press excelerater at starting ( but i dont normally , )engine is not lumpy at all and drives off great.
the only thing that drew me to check the oil was the oil pressure gauge was reading a little low when warm and the tickover was a little high when warm.

does this still sound like the same problem .

thanks all .

Darren, that is perfectly normal. It is just that oil or even oil vapour will coat everything inside the engine when it is running. Wipe the dipstick before taking a reading.

Incidentally jonkem did you put an O ring on your dip stick?

I have had the electrical tape on mine for a year now and it hasn't leaked a bit Wink

I put 2 on because there was 2 grooves in the plastic Smile Not totally convinced that I haven't got some kind of breathing problem, but i'll wait until it goes bang and get another engine. Probably out last me Laughing

I think the book says every year or 12K miles and knock the dust off/blow off with air line and turn 1/4 of a turn so a fresh bit is opposite the inlet (assuming it's a round filter like the 2.8) every oil change between. Depends what you use it for tbh, if you do a lot of driving off-road especially in dry dusty conditions it may need replacing more often. You should be able to see how dirty it is. Do K&N do a filter that'll fit? Then all you have to do is wash and re-oil it.

I've just received a box of filters from Milners for mine, I've ordered a years worth to save on carriage as I needed to change my fuel filter as it may be a bit clogged. The filters from Milners are disposable, but I was wondering if it's possible to get a K&N filter for it, these are oiled cotton filters and are reusable, instead of throwing them away you just wash them in special cleaner and then oil them with special oil. Means you don't have to keep throwing filters away, mind you, the filter kits from milners are so cheap you'd need to own it for a fair time to get your money back on a K&N as they are quite pricey. They other thing about them is they tend to flow better than normal paper filters especially when dirty so are favoured by people tuning engine up for more power. I have one on my chevy, they do a range of filters to replace oem ones so it won't look any different from the outside, whereas I have the full baseplate and top on mine.

Had a trooper and now got a monterey. Had engine rebuild on both. Is anyone else as unlucky as us?

Monterey was breathing a bit but both of them were using oil. The mony had a hole in the piston liner about the size of a 50p. When compression tested 3 were ok but one was only about 25%.

When checking oil there is always some up the dipstick but we clean off dip again to check oil.
