Hi All,
Have just brought a 1993 Bighorn 3.1TD and am getting white smoke on startup. I have taken the injectors out and had them checked. Apparently They're fine. The glow plugs are also new. There are no vacume leaks. However the motor has had the EGR system removed and where it was has been blanked off. The previous owner seemed to think it was a sticky valve causing white smoke. I noted that he changed the cam belt at 222,000km's. I understand that the fuel injector pump timing is adjusted off the cam. Also I think the Truck uses to much desil, to do 300km's (sorry am in New Zealand) it uses 35 litres. I think that there may be a cylinder head issue or a fuel injection issue. However have not brought a compression tester yet. So a couple of questions:

1. What kind of economy should I expect from the vehicle?
2. Would delayed fuel injection timing (a symptom of White Smoke) cause excessive fuel consumption?

Confused

timing would cause increased fuel consumption but should not cause excessive fuel consumption unless it is a long way out.
