hello if you have read this already im sorry but i am new this any way my name is brian my wife has just joined up (helen) and she is going to kill me if i dont get her motor running right . she has a tropper 2.8 td 88model
and ive just put a second hand engine in , it runs very rough , ticks over at 5-600 rpm and will not go above 1000 rpm can some one help me please im desperate.

I had the same problem when we swap engines, and it was just air still in there, keep cracking the injectors.


BTW what was wrong with the other engine ?

ok it revs up now ........but it stalls when i take my foot off , oh yes it is also chucking out alot of smoke . now i must admit that although i am a mechanic i would class my self as a novice when it comes to diesel's so sorry if i sound as if i don't know what im doing .
i must admit that i have impressed my self with what i have done so far as i have not been looking forward to this at all , i supose this is what happens when you are a petrol head at heart.
ps, i do appricate your help thanx very much markymoan,siweb and any one els that can help .

it was geting dark when i done it but it looked as if it was a black-blue colour , is it dificult to do as my heart was in my gob turning the key for the first time after changing the cam belt as i never done a diesel one before.

Hoping its not a tooth out its just a few mins to set the pump to your liking,
Theres a link on here somewhere with the pdf manual for the 2.8.
I'll do a search on post back.

hello lad's , not going very well at the momment . its still smoking badley as i cannot move the pump , i have undone the three bolts to the pump and it will not move ?. i have also blead the system again and it strugels to get to 2000 rpm but runs fine there after . oh and there is a strong smell of combusted diesel when you switch it off but there is no leaks on the exhaust , any idear's?

it is a little , spits a few spots of oil as well, but not real bad, not enough to say the rings have gone.

Could be allsorts mate, maybe the injectors arnt atomising properly, if they dont it will struggle to run.
Its hard to say over the net, it needs looking at by a diesel fitter.
