Hi again all....

Just picked up my Trooper from local garage (well scrapyard, but who's arguing....!) after having replacement water pump fitted. (Old one gave up three hours after I bought the vehicle...... and they decided to replace the pump for me).

Everything seems fine, but occasionally the temp gauge shoots up, usually when idleing, then once driving again it seems normal. I know these are viscous fans, so this is normal?

When you stop the engine, there's a bubbling of air in the overflow tank for about sixty seconds. Haven;t noticed any water loss yet, but will keep an eye on it, any ideas, thoughts, abuse, pointing out of my own stupidity would be most welcome guys!

is the fan turning? i would personally inspect the water pump yourself.

Have checked the fan turning and the pump IS a "NEW" isuzu unit, ordered from local dealer and fitted by the garage who sold the unit (yes, I DID buy the trooper from a local scrappy, but they do have a really good rep and I've bought vehicles from them in the past which have been really good and reliable, have been with me for years and passed many an MOT.... Could this be the exeption????)

I do "TRUST" the trained chimps which fitted the pump, but have heard hooror stories about retorquing head bolts and destroyed head gaskets etc in these older 3.2 engines so am just casting a sceptical eye and being over cautious (it's my first 4x4)....!

I suppose the question is where doe the gauge shoot up to? Does it overheat, i.e. go into a red zone? if so that is a problem. I would first check the thermostat. Remove it and drop it into a bowl of hot water and see if it opens OK. It could be stuck, sticking or the wrong temperature 'stat altogether. It's probably simpler than you think...

...... Ok, NEWBIE time....

Having only driven CARS in the past, and never having even attempted to own a 4x4, I'm only used to checking/filling an expansion bottle.  

Checked actual radiator, found no water!..... Checked rad hose, found blockage.... now running like a dream!.....    

Thanks for your ideas and assistance folks, but we can firmly pin this one down to newbie disease!

Yeah Brian, but at least you had some idea of where to look and what to do...... Mine was just utter stupidity from beginning to end!!!!!!!!
