anyone tell me the easy way to split the front double uj on a mk1 2.6 petrol, i have to replace the outer boot on both sides as they have split. The strip down was easy but i would have thought they can be poped apart rather than removing the whole drive axle
a prompt reply would be nice, |

I would have thought that you have to take the locking hubs off and pop the ball joints out, then the driveshaft will pull clear of the hub. _________________ |

the locking hubs are off and the ball joints busted leaving the double uj sitting there with a split outer and an intact inner boot. about 1.2hr each side. but the double uj's need to be split so to put the new boots on. i'm just a bit stumped at the moment on how to split the joints so to slide a new outer boot on. |

You have me there, ive never replaced a boot on a trooper, but some cars have a snap clip so you can split the joint. _________________ |

I've never done one, but I do seem to remember being told by the garage that replaced mine on my old 2.8, that the outer c.v.joint does not split, the inner one does, and so the boot has to be put on from the inner c.v. end. _________________

remove the boot from the inner joint
just inside you will find a circlip that holds the joint together remove it pull joint apart
remove circlip from shaft slide bearing cage off put outer gaiter on
reassemble inner joint |
