Hi Guys and Gals

Having been sent paranoid by the site (Great however) i've done some searching and found several sites that offer free software (no copyright issues) to interface with the OBD II Plug.

I've ordered the interface cable from SK Pang Electronics (uk company)

www.skpang.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=126

This lead supports the Ji850 VPW protocol (GM) and links directly to your laptop

Cost of the lead is £89.30 inc vat

I'll update this thread when i have tested the lead and software

with a 99 "trooper" many none Main dealer garages will be able to read the ECU you know.  But over time you will save money by having your own reader, let us know how you get on.

OBDII Communication Update

It does work! however not with the software mentioned in previous posts, but i have found a very simple "freeware" program that does the job

1) Downloading DTC's that are stored

2) real time monitering of  all sensors , MAP, IAT,ECT,TIMING-degree,RPM,MPH,VOLTS,TPS, O2 sensor volts and fuel trim, EGR(desired%),EGR(actual%)EDR(duty cycle%)

The software can be found at  http://www.scantool.net/?mode=displaySoftware&software_id=43&category=Utilities

Data that can be compared with the scantool is in the "Engine Drivability and Emmisons" section of the manual.

Having spent nigh on all of the weekend downloading software to the laptop i'll do an in-depth  test of my Troop next weekend.

Hi siweb

The interface is multi protocol that is all protocols from 1996 to present day, i would have thourght that the Bighorn being IM(GM0 would still have had the same protocol(VPW), but i will check this.

Regading DTC's I had a stored DTC P01486 - Throttle Position Sensor malfuction.

I cleared this on Saturday after reading and up to now it has not come back, i'me suspecting this is the intermitant fault.

I'll check the Bighorn Protocols on some recent sites i have visited, be in touch soon...

Rich

Siweb,

I found this, it would appear that the isuzu range are all (GM -VPW) protocol.
