Ive never had much dealings with auto hubs, and one seems to be sticking.
Not quite engaging properly and then not disengaging properly, i assume its through lack of use in 4x4.
Is there a quick fix or is it tool time ??

Please dont say tool time  Laughing

Most members who have had this problem Marky, seem to have swapped them out for manual hubs available from Milners. The auto hubs normally disengage by reversing for a few metres. Apart from that, it's spanner time, take them apart, repack with grease and give 'em another go. They're easy to get off and I believe that the CV joints don't take a lot of stick off road before they fail or get erratic (as you seem to have found out already).

The manual hubs are far more robust and a must for regular off-roading although obviously, you have to get out of your warm cab to lock/unlock them.  Sad  But they make your truck look tough! Very Happy

Ive only just got this motor, so i decided to give it a workout Twisted Evil
I heard the normal bang as they engaged, but when i went back to 2wd for the road(hoping to leave the hubs locked to give the gearbox a stir) the nearside one was banging, so i reversed a few feet and the banging went down to a grating, i had to reverse about 100 meters to disengage the n/s hub properly.
I was hoping maybe someone knows a way to free them up without stripping the whole thing down.

Because i want to go play on the farm in the rain Sad

I don't thing there's a way other than to strip them down. I had mine in 4X4 yesterday up a rocky incline in the Forest and my hubs don't even make a noise when they engage/disengage!  Very Happy

Which is a bit worrying... Confused

My 2.8 used to make really loud bang/clicking noise when in 4wd setting off and under load say going up a muddy bank, but after changing for manuals one (as instructed by MR T) all is now ok and no noise, and they get them some stick Laughing .

Wrong amount of grease  Shocked  i stripped them out and they was lightly coated in clean grease, the teeth on the n/s looked worn(probably due to the problem)

Aparently if you put two much in they don't work properly.

5.0 g in the cover and 8.0 g in the housing.

I gather that two much can cause problems.
