I ditched the side steps on my MK 1 as they kept getting dragged in the mud.  If you're worried about sill damage get some rock sliders made up, if you can build a trailer you can build some simple low profile rock sliders!

Oh and I vote for rectangular chrome (like the two sets of Hella Jumbo 220's I have sat in a box waiting to go on my Chevy!)

Big round ones!  Hella definately the best.  Choose carefuly though, get something which can take 100w bulbs.  Really turn night into day!  I like mine with the blue lenses, but each to their own. 8)

I like that lightpod but its still too tall to enable me to get a set of ladders on the roof over it. I want a bar like you see on some landrovers that comes off the roof at gutter height over the windscreen with some smallish spots.

just stick some bl**dy big round ones in front of your radiator just like the shogun owners do, it helps wonders for cooling on hot days

Chris, this is the best picture i have at the moment...

Will try and get something better.
As for cooling, have never had the temperature gauge move of the middle of the scale.  Even when doing stupid things in the middle of the hot weather, like pulling out irrigation guns to water the crops!

the manufacturers must have over spekked the cooling fan then, anything infront of the radiator and causing a blockage will affect the cooling of a vehicle

Most engine driven fans overcool at speed as the ram air is more than enough to cool the engine, even electric fans will be over specced to take into account slow running, towing etc.  I've run spotlights in front of grilles on all sorts fo cars over the years and never had cooling problems.

Covering up the opening in the bumper would have a much greater affect on a 3.0td trooper than the grill.  The openings in the pannel are much smaller than the area of radiator behind it.
