|
|
hi this is now the second time its has gone, and i really dont want to spend another £2k with so called experts. it has failed 3 days after its years warrenty.
that was for a total rebuild and its lasted less than 9k miles
the gearbox is fitted to a 2000 3.5 v6 auto bighorn
last time they told me there was no oil in the box but the aa said the oil was fine!!!
it is slipping in gears as before and will not drive well 3000rpm to get 5mph out of it.
trailed it home this morning.
any ideas?
any one had this?
what model of gear box is fitted?
does the same box fit in anyother cars / manufatures?
all help greatlyfully recieved |

Can't comment on the mechanics but can on the warranty issue.
Look up and read the sale of goods act (same with services and repairs) and, without going into great depth here, it is patently obvious that a recon. gearbox should last longer than one year or 9,000 miles. So, regardless of the 'warranty' period, it is, obviously, not fit for purpose so a claim can be made.
Prepare for a fight and, if poss., come to a friendly arrangement with the suppliers first but, if all else fails the small claims court is a good place to go - it's very cheap, if the ruling goes against you then you're not liable for costs and it's easy.
There are numerous legal precedents for companies having to put stuff right after the warranty period - trawl the web and find some consumer forums for advice and try to avoid, in the first anstance anyway, no-win no-fee solicitors. These people can be good if all else has failed, however, and there is nothing else to lose.
Hope this helps. _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS

Just wanted to contribute that I had an automatic gearbox rebuild in Kent in August and it was a botched job. Repaired box flares when changing gears and is erratic etc. The repair was carried out 400 miles from home. I was never happy with the quality of work that was done but the garage assured me it would @settle in@. It never did.
Finally got it diagnosed yesterday in auto specialist recommended by IM group and am now about to contact the original garage giving them the option of collecting and repairing it or paying for the new rebuild in Scotland (where I live).
My legal advice attached to my home insurance is proving quite useful here and they are sure I have a good case against the original repairer. I guess my advice is to get legal advice before you do anything further. The law can help in these cases. As crocket says its not fit for purpose (not value for money) and that should be that.
I'll post my own story in more detail when I have time. There are bits of it around here in my previous postings about naughty reverse gear and so on.
regards
