sorry lads , i have sinned  Embarassed , yesterday i bought a landrover disco , well my wife did , i,ve still got my trooper Razz so dont shoot me .
Any way guess what we have a problem !!!!.
took the landy out for a longer drive last night , and when warmed up after say 10 miles , started to notice the "oil can " light on the dash coming on when at low revs and siting at idle , it goes off when you pull away and up the revs .
i checked the oil level and its ok , the water temp stayed at about 1/2 way , the motor starts and runs ok .
what could be causeing this .
Anyone ???

What engine is it? I know the Td5 motors have problems with their oil pumps etc... worth getting checked as they should have been fixed under recall.

its an old one 1996  N plate , but mint condition , lovely to drive , but problems already ( also as oil leak Crying or Very sad suprise on my driveway ).

unlike the trooper there is no oil pressure gauge  , the mrs loves the car , but i did try and talk her into the 3.0TD trooper we looked at , but she was worried about the engine recall buisness.
so what to do ???.
could try and demand money back , but i know i wont find another like this for £3000 or start spending .

Anyone know how to check the oil pressure , what would cause it to be low when warmed up .
Any one know if the is a pressure switch/plug to replace

thanks all

Did you buy it private or trade? If you bought it off a trader take it back ... if you bought it private you could have a polite word... but you dont really have much in the way of warranty. Being the older engine (200 or 300tdi) they are pretty bomb proof and so its probably just a few seals.
Mike from www.landyworld.co.uk posts here very so often ... he migh have an idea.

Private sale or not, if it was a known issue that was not disclosed i'm sure you have rights.

He may theoretically have rights in law, Moany, but it's enforcing them that's the problem. It's likely to be costly and/or time consuming to pursue through the courts, although the Small Claims Court might be worth a try.

I'd pop round for a firm but friendly chat with a big mate or two to lend a little persuasion and hold my hand out for some compensation or my money back.........

No shame in having a Land Rover, I have one and have had others. Just don't tell any one, keep it our secret Wink  Tdi's have timing belt, generally a good engine, if looked after. The 300 tdi had an issue shedding timing belts, which was cured by fitting modified pulleys. I'm afraid they can leak a bit. Not
necessarily doom and gloom on oil pressure, has it had filter and oil change?
It could just be a weak pressure switch or electrical glitch. You can get capillary pressure gauges which screw in and I think tend to be more accurate.
