Can anyone of you engine wizards please tell me the process for changing the fuel filter on my 1995 3.1 Bighorn. I'm worried about getting air in the system and not being able to bleed it out. |

undo and remove the two hoses going to the filter
unbolt the bracket
lift filter and filterhousing clear removing the wires to the water sensor
separate filter and housing remove water sensor from the filter
clean sensor
fit to the new filter with new O ring
fill filter with fresh diesel
screw filter to the housing take care not to spill the diesel
reconnect the wires and bolt filter back in place
push hoses back on refit clips
press pump on top of housing up and down untill it goes hard and then start engine
you should not have to bleed it |

I don't know if they all have this but mine has a drainer on the bottom of the filter housing onto which you can push a bit of tube to catch the diesel that's in the old filter into a bowl of some sort on the ground below.
Push some tube onto it then unscrew the valve and it drains out.
This is great as it stops a filter full of diesel going all over your drive as you remove the housing.
Aint it funny how half a cupful of diesel can seem to cover ALL your driveway yet doesn't seem to go far when you're driving the car? _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS

Hi
the screw on the bottom is actually a water drain
but when you empty it don't drain it just a few drops
into a small container like a spray can lid
check for water and if required a few more drops until no more water
i would check 3 monthly in summer and monthly in winter
cheers

Didn't know that was the actual purpose - still, it's a useful thing either way.
To be honest, I never check for water, I just change the all filters twice yearly as they're dead cheap.
And I still manage to get some diesel on my drive every time _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS
