I would change if you want a reliable car that will last a long time.

They seem to be quite hard on the oil, so change the filter every time to.

Vauxhall I think extended the service interval on the Isuzu 2.8 engined frontera, but this was more of a sales ploy than any thing ells IMO, and must impact on longevity.

The 3.1 has a lot in common with the 2.8 I think.

It's a simple job to do your self, and if you buy the oil in a drum form a moterfactors fairly cheep.

The books usually state 4500/6000 miles as a service interval- most owners change their oil every 3000 miles just to keep their pride & joy in tip-top condition.

My 2.8 owners manual states 3000 miles for oil and 6000 for filter, so i assume the 3.1 is the same  Question

If the reccomended interval between changes is 6000 and you use the right oil there is no need to do it every 3000.

Still, I do mine every 3000 and the filter too as I think diesels in general are hard on the oil and there's no way it can hurt doing it more often.
