Can't comment on the shocks but I put some Milner heavy duty springs on mine and after 6 months 1 of them snapped  Shocked  they sent me another one under warrenty and so far it's ok , I'm considering replacing the shocks soon though and hear good reports about pro comp , not too expensive either at £30 a corner

Would echo what was said about Milner springs, I now use standard ones from the factors but use milners Poly bushes.

I use procomps on the back end.

Very good for towing and general road use.

Don't know about off road though.

I think they are a good idea.

Not sure if essential, I got white ones for mine, so they are fairly unobtrusive.

Depends what your motor is going to be doing. For everyday use they are OK, as they keep road salt etc off the chrome pistons, but if you do a lot of mud plugging they actually fill up with mud, affecting the damping properties of the shock, and also causing the shock itself to corrode. I run without, and keep an eye on the state of the shocks.
