Hi i have a duty 3.0td, about 3 weeks ago it wouldn't start, so i got 2 new batts was ok till this week, so had it tested and found out alternator had gone so put new one on last night got it started and took it for a small run round town got in it this morning and batt was flat, put them on charge for about 3.5 hours each today but still not enough power to start, has anyone got any ideas? is this just not long enough charge time

It sounds like you have got a short circuit or fault somewhere draining power.

have you got a volt meter ? if so test the voltage on the battery then start it up and test it again , if the voltage is higher  then the aulternator is ok , you know the batery is ok  so if the aulternater is reading lower then get another one but check all conections first , if all is fine then suspect the starter motor.

thanks for the help. i think its the new alternator draining current, because the car is drawing 2.5 amps, when all is switched off but when i disconnect wire on the back of alternator it draws .03amps, the only worry i have is when i dissconnect alternator wire does this disconnect anything else that could cause this? I don't think i had a drain before i changed alternator

Faulty alternators can present a permanent power drain ... it could be the new one is goosed??
