Great when offroading as you can call help quickly when stuck but, unless you have some specific use such as that, you will find the airwaves mostly full of morons. _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS

there's still a few moron's on the air. I've got one in my wagon, which i use for traffic and chatting with collegues.
I was going to put one in the trooper, cos i've got a spare couple lying about. if i can find a good one among them. _________________

ok so the next question is (assuming I am only going to use it for off road days)
Do I need to spend much on it (i.e are they all pretty much the same - other than having fancy functions etc)
Cheers _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

As said good on play days or in convoys, where some good banter can be had.
Really little difference between cheap and expensive sets. The expensive sets have more to fiddle with!
The key point with the CB is the instalation. But that really depends on how far you want to transmit and recieve. For short range work, in the situations above, a cheap set will be ok. With an arial on a magnet mount. Sometimes if the earth is not very good on the mag mount it can be a pain. Is normally ok through the normal manafacturers paintwork.
Personally, i had a cheap set for a number of years before upgrading to one with more fiddly bits. Also got fed-up with the mag mount and drilled a hole in the roof for the arial! _________________ Isuzu Trooper SWB 3.0DT Commercial |

Have a peek here http://www.moonrakerukltd.com/ they have some basic sets that work well. They are available direct or thru a host of dealers (CPC, Maplin, CB Dealers). _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

Thanks for all your replies.
what I think I'll do is borrow my mates for the 11th Feb Greenlaning and see how much use it is and then decide.
Thanks

Hi, Tim.
I got a moonraker (as per Chris's link).
I got their cheapest set, the Minor, a decent extension speaker and a cheapo magmount ariel all for £60inc postage brand new from eebuygum.
The guy was listing it for, I think, about £90 the lot but I made a cheeky offer and it was accepted and it all works great for my purposes - short distance comms with off-roady mates up to about 2 miles. I tested it up to five miles and it was just about ok so would be great with a better ariel.
The internal speaker is a bit rubbish, mind, so an extension is reccomended. That's if you want to hear it over your Megadeath CD anyway.
I don't want to upset admin by posting a link to eebuygum and I've nothing to gain here - I just found him to be a good seller so, if you'd like a link, please PM me.
Hope this helps. _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS
