hey guys...im just wondering if anybody knows about or has had  a power upgrade done on the 3.0td trooper??
which would be better, the plug in box type, or getting the ECU remapped??   also what would be the maximum bhp / torque that can be got from these things?..
mine is a 2000 model...and driving quite well by the way ( i prob should leave it alone...but )
thanks guys

I have been into Tunit this morning asking a few questions...

Cost - £467.65 self fit or £507.60 fitted.

They do offer to install one onto your vehicle and then they will come out with you for a test drive... if you like it you pay up and drive away with a more powerful motor, if you dont like it you simply pay £40 for the labour and they will take it off and you drive away £40 lighter and with your power as before.

The figures quoted are as follows:
Standard - 159bhp power, 222lbft torque
+Tunit - 192bhp power, 270lbft torque

Tunit in Chorley (their HQ) have done "about half a dozen" 3.0 troopers in the last six months and according to their Aftersales guy (john) all the customers left very happy with big improvements in power and also better fuel figures.

More info on www.tunitlancashire.co.uk

Sooo - Im now looking to get it done at some point towards the end of feb (service is due first). I will keep you updated when the work is done.

Just spoken with Nick @ Turbo chip and they offer an ECU re-map for £395+vat and quoted power figures of 200BHP+ on the 3.0 4JX1   Twisted Evil

http://www.turbo-chip.co.uk/Locate.aspx?City=17

He said he had done plenty of the re-maps for main dealers and not had any problems with any of the Troopers they had done. He did however say that the Trooper should have the latest batch of injectors before any mods are carried out. The re-map offers a full engine tune altering a host of parameters to extract the extra power where as the plug in options simply alter the fuel delivery.

Just got to decide what to go for now... think it might be the re-map - anybody any experience of either??

Logic says that a remap should be better.

Has he got any figures on torque and fuel economy?

Interesting that he says he has done remaps for main dealers - would have thought it would invalidate any warranty you had.

I'm in two minds which to go for as well.

Also trying to work out what else can be done i.e free flowing exhaust and better air filter - would this need to be done before chipping?

Err... somebody didnt write them down...  Embarassed

I am planning to fit a K&N replacement element soon, and a guess the 3.0 exhaust is fairly free flowing as its already huge

I've been looking into this too (not particularly for the Trooper) and asked via feedback one or two of the guys who have bought on eebuygum - this is the only real reply I got

'Yeah i fitted three as i got a buy two get one free offer, i fitted them to
my 1999 mk iv golf 1600cc. I found that it was more responsive, although
there was no difference to my fuel economy at all'.

SO I'd be very interested to know what you think after you fit it.

Iam very interested in this thread too. I wonder if any of you guys and the companies mentioned would be interested in doing a group buy.. Wink Never know they might even drop the prices slightly for a decent quantity.

Just come across this thread. Wondering if anyone can elaborate on what exactly might be meant by the Trooper needing to have the latest batch of injectors prior to a remap? i.e. what is the latest batch & how can this be checked? Thanks
