Just to say to anyone else reading about bleeding the air off:

This morning I've just fitted a new rad, the old one had a slight leak,
anyway I drained the good coolant from the system in a bucket.

Once I fitted the new rad, I filtered the coolant with some tights.
I then topped up the system through the rad top without the engine running using my wifes pint jug, just about all went in, leaving about a pint.
I then started the engine, switch the heater on full and teamed in the remainder.
This took about five minutes all together, dead easy job.
Maybe I've been lucky but an hour to circulate air from the engine cooling system is way excesive.
