It is normal for the 3.1td autobox to not change into overdrive until the oil has reached operating temperature
invincible you say yours is 95 what we really need to know is is your injection pump cable operated or electronic

now your asking one of those technical questions  Shocked
how do i check that? is that a case of if the accelerator pedal has a cable or is a fly by?
I however have not changed any oils on the vehicle since i got it (sunday). it is booked in at the weekend so i can do it myself on the ramps Wink
This is where i would love a manual of some sort so i can look and see what other bits may need changing or looking at. Rolling Eyes
would this cut the engine out now and again though??or is that a seperate problem? or is it down to the fuelpump or gearbox controlling it.? confused but still in love with it  Confused    Twisted Evil

as far as the workshop manual is concerned the on line manual has every thing you will need even the gearbox AW30-40LE is in there it describes the later box but the mechanical side is the same as the early auto box the later one has extra electronic gizmo's which can be disregarded
As before if the pump has a cable then its manual and the TPS is on the top of the pump where the cable operates from and can be adjusted
before adjusting it though i would make sure the fuel system is sorted and free from air New filter  then try loosening the two screws that hold the TPS on twist it a little and keep trying it up the road to see if it makes any difference
Also take the sump off the autobox check for any metal particles and remove and clean the filter and refill with dexron II as it is cheaper (for cleaning and flushing)  if this improves things then change the Transmission fluid again for dexron III ( later type more expensive)

invincibull - sounds like the same problem I had a few years ago. Basically there are valves in the bottom of the gearboc that get gummed up if its left standing for a few weeks.  Drain the fluid, clean the filter and top up with dexron 3 and a bottle of lucas transmission fix and that should sort it out.

well ive removed the kpm to mph resister thing and i was still having the same problems so ive ordered a speed sensor so when i get time im going to replace that and see if it solves the problems. i removed (unplugged) the tps and that didnt make much difference (making it worse to drive) showing me its working ok. while im changing the speed sensor i will be removing the gearbox oil and swapping that and also dropping the sump to clean the filter.
do i need a gasket for the gearbox sump?
