Total noob question. I have a Pocket PC with Sat Nav that plugs into my cigarette lighter. As of today, the screen backlight blinks in rythm with the engine.
Is this the sign of an iffy alternator or similar? _________________ 1995 Vauxhall Monterey

Sorry, I meant packing up, not picking up!

I'm no expert but could it be ignition based? Does it have the right plugs, are these not shielded now days? Just a thought. |

Could be something as daft as a dodgy connection in the lighter socket.
For some reason, certain "accesories" that plug into the lighter socket won't work in mine, others will. My Sat Nav and phone charger are fine, but my bluetooth headset charger won't, but it's ok in the wife's Vitara
I had a similar experience with my old Saab, some things were fine, theres worked if you wiggled the plug, others wouldn't work at all.
I just think sometimes the sockets, or plugs fitted to accessry leads are not exactly precision engineered. _________________ 94 Big Horn 3.1 Lotus Auto

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'd tried the reset & have wobbled the power plug about. I can tolerate it providing it doesn't ultimately blow the PDA backlight. Just hoping that it's not a symptom of anything else.
The socket is wired directly from the battery with an inline fuse. I think I'll check if the fuseholder's loose next. _________________ 1995 Vauxhall Monterey

Wire in a big capacitor across the poles of the lighter socket - that'll smooth things out. _________________ 1994 BIGHORN 3.1TD LOTUS

Shouldn't be any need to fit a capacitor (suppressor) as the alternator is already suppressed. If it wasn't you would hear interference on the stereo. _________________ 94 Big Horn 3.1 Lotus Auto
