Hi guys, I am picking up my Trooper this Saturday and the service history so far is :

1452 miles
13,970 miles
19,257 miles
24,578 miles
32,170 miles
39,070 miles

As it now has 48,000 on the clock it is due a service, any idea what I should be looking for in a service and does this history look OK, the injectors were done in October 2006.

I know there is a hundred postings about tyres on here but the vehicle has Bridgestone Dueler's and Yokohamas fitted now, is there a standard size 245/70/r16 road tyre that forum members recommend.

Thanks.

I take it you have only listed major services ?
As you well know the troop has a lot of minor ones for engine oil etc.
Other than that  Very Happy

This is the info I was emailed from the seller, I have seen loads of pics, but I wil set eyes on it for the first time on Saturday, should I contact the seller to confirm these interim oil changes you mention, forgive my ignorance but should they be every six thousand miles and should they also be noted in the sevice manual ? as the injectors were done at a main Isuzu dealers in October, I would hope they would have noted anything wrong with the engine, I have their phone number, so I may give them a call to check.

Thanks.

Yes the oil & filters (two of them) are every six thousand. The 48,000 mile service on the 3.0DT is the major service and is just about every fluid, filter, grease point etc on the motor. I use a local specialist and it normally comes in around £250 with dealers being closer to £450 (from memory)

Thanks very much, I will start looking around for a local 4x4 specialist. it will also need tyres in a few months time, I would love to fit the bigger 265/75 tyres that are posted elsewhere, but as my missus will be using the Trooper to ferry the kids about, I would like any ideas for tyres with a good braking action and tread life.

Cheers.

BF Goodrich AT last for ages (longer than a lot of road tyres), some folk have had 50,000+ from them.

One I have tried and not liked .... Hankook RA07 dont last very long... also a little skittish on wet tarmac.

There is quite a bit of discussion on tyres in the Tyres/Wheels section

Thanks, one last thing, for any forum members, I am traveling a long way to buy this Trooper and have done as much homework as I can, is there any advice you could give me on what to look for on viewing and test driving, I will only have an hour or less to make up my mind.

The things I know are : it has a service history as above, the recall work has been done last October, it has one former owner and 48k on the clock, it looks very clean and tidy with seven seats.

On the downside it will need a big service very soon and the tyres will need changing in a few months time.

The car looks nice and I do hope to buy it, but I am sure you would advice caution, so any advice and tips prior to my leaving on Saturday would be grately appreciated.

Thanks again.

Just make sure everything works including 4wd , have a good luck underneath ,  and check the drive where it's parked for oil leaks , 4 good quality tyres will cost about £400 so try and hagle some off the price to cover this , good luck

Mines fitted with 265.70.r16 maxxis bravo's.  They were on the car when I bought it and had been fitted by the dealer that imported it.  There is still loads of tread left and they have so far covered 35k miles.  I don't think they are particularly expensive.  I would think twice about fitting anything wider.  It will cost you in MPG terms, initial purchase price, will feel like the car is riding on balloons causing it to handle like a pig on stilts, and also put extra stress on brakes and gearbox.  245s give more than enough grip.

Hi guys, I have found out the injectors failed and the vehicle was recoverd by Midgley motors last September, it then had the injectors replced under warranty by R N Golden ltd an Isuzu main dealer, I called them and asked if the mechanics would have noted any engine damage, she said nothing was in the file to indicate any damage.

This work was carried out by the former keeper and then sold on to the present owner within weeks, the guy seems on the level but as I don't have any experiance with this vehicle I don't want to get stuck with a pig in a poke, should I walk away from this on am I being to negitive, if I do have a look what in particular should I be looking for that would show enging damage from the failed injectors ?

Thanks again.

Sorry me again, I have just managed to track down the original owner through BT phonebook online (I should have been a detective) they confirmed the injectors blew and that the car was checked over after the new ones were fitted, they say it was running fine before they sold in december and they have had no other problems since.

I will go and have a look anyway.

Cheers
