Hi, I have had my 70,000 Mile 1999 3.0 Diesel Manual from new and has been faultless until last week. The 4wd dash warning light started to flash when the vehicle was started, but would go out after about 100 yards, then after about 1 mile, etc. Now the light is flashing permenantly. When switched to 4wd the light comes on as it should and the vehicle is in 4x4 mode and works perfectly, when switched to 2wd it does as it should and drives perfectly again but the light stays flashing (not for a few seconds as designed). As the car vehicle drives perfectly my dealer has suggested putting a bit of tape over the light and stop worrying! Has anyone ever come across anything similar?

Cheers Simon

On my 3.1 the 4wd light came on and stayed on ( not flashing ) and it turned out to be a broken wire in the loom just above the front axel

Hi,
Not an expert on this topic, but if the light stays flashing, and has been for progressively longer times, I would suspect perhaps sticking auto lock hubs, or something like that?

A dealer who gives a reply like that is unprofessional and I would avoid like the plague in the future IMHO.

Hi the 4Wd goes through a self diagnostic upon start up
thats why it flashes then goes out
it could be vacumn pipes and the sensors are detecting a fault
the front hubs are activated with a signal from the ecu and
transfer box so if you have a pipe perished or come off
then it should show up as a fault
normally if the wires wear through the light stays on but
doesn't flash
just a thought
how often do you engage the 4Wd before the fault
as it may be stuck if it's not been used regularly
cheers
GM
