Hi

Best way would be to get in touch with a local 4x4 centre - loads of them around and they would be able to give you advice etc.

Otherwise keep an eye out on here for events as people are always willing to have novices along and pass on their words of wisdom

Green Laning would appear to be the way forward but unfortunately, there seems little left down here in the South after May 2006. There are plenty of private areas with organised events but these are exorbitant prices. Best bet is to travel ooop North where they seem to have a better selection of Lanes and former quarries etc plus the Club is more active above the Midlands (they were born Muddy!  Laughing )

I to would be quite interested in some laning down this way but I fear  we'll need to join a Landy club.... Crying or Very sad

I have found this site in Total off road £26 a day
http://www.4x4driving.co.uk/ownerdays.htm
Hopefully somebody will have been there and can give a bit of info.

Ps. I'm a northerner, so i dont know how far it is from you  Smile

One word of advice ... if you go greenlaning make sure you go along with another motor (just in case you get stuck!)

The 4x4 play sites are great for picking up tips & tricks - you can "play" as rough as you want and dont have to worry about damage to the tracks.

Petley Dear Park (not sure of the spelling) springs to mind, down your way. 196 acres, private land as rough or as gentle as you want it. Just outside Battle. You'll need to do some searching because I don't know who runs it now.
As everyone else will tell you, don't go alone.

Don't think they do 4x4 days anymore. Petley Deer park is now an equestrian centre. Used to be every first Sunday of the month, or something like that, good fun. Shame it's closed... Unless you have a horse.

Whitbread Hop Farm at Paddock Wood run 4x4 days, and there's a place near East Grinstead but can't remember what it's called. Have a look in the Wealden Advertiser, (the free Orange paper), now and then an ad appears for 4x4 days.
The nearest green lane to me was cleared by a local Landrover club, only to be closed again by the local authority due to numpties fly tipping.

Some advice from a relative novice off roader.

Always walk the tricky bits first.

Always know what way your wheels are pointing. You can plow down ruts on full lock and keep going straight ahead, then suddenly leap out of the ruts and collide with something, someone or ride up a bank and turn over.
