Is it possible your transfer lever is not fully home? Sounds like you have found a false neutral somwehere. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

thanks for quick replys yes i was just after leaving a rough hardcored hill with 500kg on board, stoped on tarmac, changed from 4L to 2H then nothing.when i change the transfer lever i can feel it engage. If i try to drive it trys its best both forwards and reverse .i can here a grinding sound coming from the gearbox but its not a metal to metal sound .i have lifted it up on blocks now (forklift) so plenty of room .is there any easy way of checking clutch and does thr gearbox have to come complety down |

Sounds like transfer gears rather than clutch. While it's in the air set it to 4L and turn the front wheels by hand, it may help to turn both wheels at the same time. Other than that can't think of an easy way to diagnose it, sorry _________________ 1994 KZJ70 Cruiser (currently filling the garage and causing some head scratching)

checked transfer oil seemed fine.removed inspection cover from bellhousing ,the pressure plate seems to have come off the flywheel one nut got damaged while undoing gearbox so will have to burn it off, might try to force a smaller imperial socket on the nut not a very nice job removing gearbox.will see exactly tomorrow hopefully. never thought it possible to sheer pressure plate off flywheel. Is there somewhere on forum that i could download the manual maybe then get a better idea of what the hell has caused this |
