My new to me Trooper's steering seems vague, about an eight of a turn each way on the wheel before anything happens. Is this normal ?
Is there a steering box that can be tweaked ? |

Yes the steering box can be adjusted
Could also be a little bit of play in the linkages. _________________ |

If you can't resize, e-mail it to me and I will do it for you.
Are you wanting it for an avatar, or just to post? |

Lift the front off the ground (just to the tyres aren't touching the ground). Move the steering to full lock (don't need the engine running). On the end of the steering box there will be a large (couple of inch) retaining nut and a huge srewdriver flat in the end of it (if memory serves corectly). Tighten the nut a tiny amount until the float comes out of the steering - be carful not to overtighten though. Spin the lock nut back up, start the engine, and make sure that the steering goes from lock to lock withough getting excessivly heavy.
Don't set the steering box with the steering in a middle posisiton, since when the play is removed it is possible to cause the steering to be so heavy when on lock that you can't straighten back out - Very bad place to be.
You should be able to get most of the play out of the steering using the box, but there will be a little bit of slack left due to linkage wear and the like.
