I was going to make some gaskets tonight to blank off the EGR, ready for a run out tomorrow.

Here is what I've got

I was originally planning to make blanking gaskets for the vertical gaskets, but now I've seen it - I'm not sure.

Horizontal or vertical ?

I think most blank the manifold gasket.

I have not done it so can't say for sure.

Doesnt matter really as long as its blocked, but beer cans dont hold out for long Laughing

Well I've gone for the manifold/vertical join.

2mm thick copper plate, rather than beer cans.
Hoping it will compress enough to act as a gasket - that was the logic behind the choice of materials.

I've made the plates now, I'll throw them on tomorrow, and see if it makes any difference. I'm hoping so as my vacuum hoses are pretty knackered.

I blanked mine off in the same place , the biggest improvement is in cold starting .
But I`ve thought since that it may have been better to blank them off from the exhaust manifold side only one plate needed , and a cleaner flow for the exhaust , .
Any thoughts anyone ???

on the fence with this erg valve. the old bus likes to rear up and change a peg when over taking hgvs, (even worse when c/van on) hopefully thanks to hard1, this problem with the g/box is sorted. always felt a bit daft plodding along and wham! big cloud of black smoke and the guy in the car behind wondering what the hells going on! so. with what ive read, i think i might take the plunge and blank it of.
here comes silly question time.
in the photo above, is there 1 erg valve, or 2, or is the one still there for something else.
is there anychance of someone putting a photo on of one thats blanked off. dont want to sound like a complete novice, just want to be sure Wink

There are two EGR valves - I've shown it with one removed just for contrast really.

I don't have any pics of the blanking plate. I traced around the gasket that was there, cut it out with a angle grinder, and drilled two holes.
It doesn't need to be super accurate.

I bought a piece of 2mm thick copper off of eebuygum as it was tricky to source for me.

cheers andy, was talking with the flt fitter where i work and he didnt think it would have two fitted. thanks for that.
