Hi peeps.
After my 94 Citation died I've just bought a very shiney 97 and I'm chuffed to bits with it... ''
I swapped out the stereo no prob but am not too sure about how to get at the speakers to change 'em. Do I just pry off the grills?
Also, I've read that some troopers have tweeter wiring in the doors. Can anyone tell me if this model should have?
Lastly, the drivers side front speaker is dimmer than a brothel lamp... What is best way of replacing cables, if that is the issue, and where do the little bug*ers go? ''
Ta

ok - The covers prise off. The front speakers then just unscrew. (although I have yet to find any new ones that will fit!) _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

Its a "japanese 16 and a half" according to my very helpful local car audio shop - he sold me a pair of JBL GTO-626e speakers which dropped straight into the front doors. |

I tried a set of them and they wouldn't fit - they were too deep (hitting a metal strut behind) at least I though that was the part number - will need to check again _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

My first Trooper was a '92 K and it had front door tweeters and they've followed me all the way through to this, my fourth one.
The first was a Duty, the next two Bighorns and this a '99 Citation, so I'd say it's pretty safe to assume they're all wired for tweeters. Just prise off the little triangular gusset panels and you'll find a wee connector there - possibly taped up, but there nevertheless. |

Hi guys, hope you don't mind if I jump on-board.
I've been looking for gussets on my Bighorn, but the only one's I spotted whilst hanging out low in the footwell were mincing down the pavement in very short skirts...
Ooooerr...
Anyway, can't find the tweeter things you refer to - any chance of a picture or do you think Bighorns don't have them?
Also, which 6" speaker is safe to buy without taking an angle grinder to the thing?
Can't find any JBL GT0 636 or 626 on that well known auction site, only 627's...
heeeelp please... I have a Kenwood 8024 with 4 X 50 watts... and need a pair of good front speakers to do it justice. The back ones are pants anyway.
Gussets and pants.....blimey.... _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

Just double checked and the 627 for this year is a 165mm and you will need a 160mm for the front of a trooper. The only one I can see is a component (seperate tweeter & woofer)
GT0607C
Ooo - spotted another

Now I'm really confused. 1 ad says they (the GTO 627) are 6" and the next:
"GTO627 6-1/2" 2-Way Loudspeaker with Plus One woofer cone, My-Ti tweeter, tweeter level control and Low-Q design"
I wish someone would make up their minds.... _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

The info from JBL also seems to cause confusion - I have their catalogue here at work and its not fully clear. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

OK, I have decided to stop being a lazy bas*ard and go and do something for myself instead of relying on others.
I have just ripped off the grilles and found a very ancient pair of pansy looking JVC speakers hiding in there along with Jimmy Hoffa.
The JBL GT0 627 is 54mm depth and 131mm cut out.
The 'ole in the door is: 54mm depth and 131 cut out - best I could measure with a flexible tape! There are 3 plastic bars across the rear of the speaker recess guarding a part of the window regulator system so not much too play with for sure. If there is a mm or so issue, you could set the speaker on a thicker "gasket" and play around with the stock grille but I think it's OK. The JBL's come with grilles anyway so you may not need to use the stock ones on the doors....
Right! I got some Paypal credit to use up sso I'm going for it!! £9 postage though - the rip offs!
How close is that - spooky... _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

OK, OK!!
For "gusset" read "little triangular plastic panel in front of front door drop glass - behind the door mirror mounts.........."
The optional tweeters are fitted in these little panels. |

Can anyone now let me know where the cables to eth speakers go once through teh rubber thingy into teh car?
