Just been under mine today and discovered that my gearbox skid plate's doing the best banana impression.... Anyone any ideas or suggestions as to where to get a proper and stronger one? |

As yet nobody has found any stronger alternatives... Dont worry - most of the troopers that have seen offroad activity will be the same (except the mk1 cos they have a decent steel guard!) _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

i've just made my own (3.1 lwb) out of 6mm thick ally sheet, it bolts on to the front cross member the engine subframe and gear box mounting, covers the sump, gear box and the transfer case. It's untested at the moment but i think it'll take some bending!! Rear diff next for a gaurd i think!! |

i've contemplated something for the sump, and a rear diff guard is on the cards.

mine just bolts on few mins to take it off, i did think about a hole for the sump bung but don't want anything hitting it!!
just remember if you make a full plate cut some holes in to let water out and to get a jet wash in!! i made a steel one out of 2mm but it didn't last long so went for thicker ally keep weight down and hopefully stronger!! a mate who builds challenge trucks recomended to use it. |

You should start a production line - I am sure a few of us would buy them! _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

sheet of ally £15 from local auto jumble got a few bends in it at a local engineering/fabrication company, drill some holes in the right places to mount it, have to drill into the gearbox mount to bolt through (no holes in the top to go through) and all just bolts up. The very rear mount under the transfer box has got threaded bolt holes already.
Peace of mind for about £30!! |

you can see the gaurd under the engine, it goes right back to the transfer box. (Not quite a shot in the workshop like i said but in action much better)
It's tried and tested now took a few hits has some scrapes but took them well

Thats a nice peace of kit you made there. Could do with making something like that for mine. Do you have to remove it to get to the sump plug? |

yeah i gotta take it off but you could have a hole made for the drain plug but i wanted the engine completely covered! it only takes few mins to take off it's only 8 bolts. I do all my servicing at work though so have access to a lift so it's much easier! |
