140 weight....from a lube chart. That's the only figure that's quoted alongside it. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

I thought the rear differential axle gear uses 90 weight oil? |

I would guess that a normal hypoid differential uses 90 weight yes, but we are talking a Limited Slip Differential here which must use a special oil. I quoted the 140 figure as it was the figure listed alongside the Besco LSD Oil and seemed to relate to the viscosity as it certainly did for other lubes in the list. However, I have no way of knowing this for sure, but it sounds about right.. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

According to my 1997 3.1tdi manual, this is what it says for rear axle with LSD:
Ambient temperature -10 deg to 35 deg C: SAE90 monograde.
Ambient temperature 15 deg to >35 deg C: SAE140
Ambient temperature -25 deg to 30 deg C: SAE80W90
Ambient temperature -25 deg to >30 deg C: SAE80W140
So it seems SAE90 monograde should do the job. |
