Have just been quoted £420 for 48K service on 2003 3.0td SWB trooper. Does anyone know of an alternative in Lincolnshire for this service?

I paid £200 ish at a local garage (was quoted £400+ at main dealer)

Thanks for the reply, my only worry is finding a garage who know what they are doing! Did you local garage have trooper experience?

I have contacted Vauxhall as I know they did badge the trooper, no response yet!

The garage I use is only 2 miles from an ex-main dealers ... so the farmers would take it there instead of paying main dealer prices.

Now that is food for thought, it would still cost me less to bring it over there, even taking into account the diesel etc!

The garage is Stuart Preston Motor Engineers near Garstang (J32 M6) Tel: 01772 862502. They have done all the servicing on my two troopers (this one and the last one) and cant fault them! The last service took them a full day to complete but was all done 100%. It might be worth phoning round a few garages close to your local main dealer... there will be others in your area who have done the same!

Thanks for the details. I have done some digging around and located a local garage that specialises in Isuzu and Subaru servicing. He wasn't surprised at my call!!! He does lots of work on Troopers and seems very genuine, quite happy for me to go down and have a natter and have a look round. Quoting around half the main dealer prices!!!

I have booked it in for next Thursday so will let you know how I get on, watch this space!!

Grease just about everything that moves, torque every bolt, replace all fluids and filters.

UPDATE

I have just arrived back from having the trooper serviced at this newly discovered garage, Manor 4x4 in Grantham Lincolnshire.

It is family run business that is very much into the rally scene, so an avid interest in motor sport all round.

The garage is clean and gives you that confidence that you have not messed up by going to someone other than a main dealer.

The job took about 1hr, the gearbox lube and diff lube was not changed, nor was the brake fluid, but it was tested. Lub and filter changed / air filter changed

Everything greased as per the book etc.

Cost, less than half price of the dealership

It is going back there from now on, MOT's, servicing cam belt etc., even looks competitive on tyres too!!

All in all and excellent experience.

Thanks for the suggestion - mine is now booked in for this Friday to have major service done, Radiator Flush and clean (as still not fully recovered from Kirton Off Road!) - Sounds like a nice bloke running it so will report back on the service
