Hi, my wife & mum have horses, they mainly do dressage.
I used to ride myself, hunted a couple of times (could hardly walk next day) but allergic to them, and gettng worse by the day, can't go near them now and i'm getting a little worried about it.

My business is also based around horses, if you need any help on all weather riding surfaces just give me a shout or visit my website www.peartarenas.com we'll be more than happy to help!

Went to have a look at a house yesterday that also happens to have a 20m x 40m Menage with an all weather surface as we're not into horses is there a second hand market for this stuff at all?  Apparently it cost £20k to be built.

Depends on what surace, how old and how much there is, woodchip - no,  sand/rubber or a premixed surface, possably only if a good quality sand has been used, there are only a handfull of quarrys in the uk that produce a sand good enough for a menage.

Its sand and rubber, its only about two years old if that and was very good quality as its used at the moment for a business.  The owner is a horse psychologist/horse whisperer and also does a lot of work with handicapped children/kids with ADHD etc

Sounds a saleable surface, would suit a DIY'er. Would be no good for us as we have to guarantee our arenas and can only use new materials. (unless customer requests it)
To give you a rough idea the sand new could cost you £3000 (a lot depend's on haulage) and the rubber £1500 (depends how much has been used)
20k seems a little steep for a 40x20 two years ago, however materials have rocketed since (thanks to the goverments aggrigate tax & fuel costs).

That included all the fencing and putting in proper drainage underneath, its been chucking down up here and it was dry as a bone when we saw it as it drains instantly.  I'm guessing they also needed to level the land as its on a slope.  As we don't have horses and are unlikely to the wife reckons we should turf it and make it into a tennis court and boules pitch!

We've got two, The Midget, 15hh Arab X Welsh Cob 17 going on 4 Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes this is him at the end of a two day 40 miler last spring.

and Danny, retired show horse, pure bred Arab 15.2hh 11yo - thug! blackeye  Very Happy

As some may have spotted, both horses do endurance, the young lad on Midget is the 15yo son of a friend who got fed up with Pony Club. Quite ironic given that my missus is now the local DC!

Thank you, they think they're lovely too. All horses have a bit of Arab in them - it resides in the vacuum where their brain usualy lives. Your girl is nice, even if some of these philistines think she looks like a milk producing bovine, bet they wouldn't say that to her face! Laughing (one thing "Oh and she don't argue or act childish" - you sure shes a mare?  Laughing  Laughing )

I suppose the thing with vet's and horses teeth is similar to vet's and horses feet - don't let them near unless absolutely necessary, leave it to the Dentist/Farrier or they'll (the Vet) just make a mess.
