In my never ending search for value for money enhancements.
Superwinch  make manual locking hubs for a trooper/monterey  87-99   17 spline.
They  seem to be sensibly priced at  £83.00 + VAT (+ Postage from the uk). They take approx 4 weeks to arrive .
If anyone is interested once i know numbers i can contact them and maybe get a discount

regards Giles

Superwinch for that price  Shocked

Very interested, as they're supposed to be much better built than the AVM ones.

Tell us more.....

I had superwinch freehubs on a series Land Rover ooooh, yoncks ago  Laughing  Laughing , as far as I could see, they were, outwardly at least, identical to AVM hubs, & pics I've seen of troopers with them on seem to be similar to the ones I had on my Landie, so I would be interested to know if Superwinch has come out with a new model.Confused
Steve.

The superwinch hubs have arrived

the only extra parts required are two 26mm cir-clips too secure them to the cv spline

The total cost £108 inc vat and postage

I hope they live up to their reputation

I went all through this exercise as well and by the time the Superwinches landed here delivered duty paid they worked out pretty much the same as the AVM, although the exchange rate is better now than it was. Cosmetically, the Superwinch are "prettier" but they appear to be almost identical to the Brazilian made AVM.

I too heard that the Aisin were tougher but again, I think there's not much to choose between them.

The AVM's are usually shipped from Germany by the way.....

UK Customs are very familiar with that tactic and although it can work sometimes, some people even re-pack them in a different box and send to the Uk as "repaired" item with nominal value I have heard Wink , although of course we shouldn't condone that sort of behaviour Neutral  It's not the duty that kills you (approx 7% on auto parts) but the VAT at 17.5% on top of the part cost freight & duty  Evil or Very Mad
