Tesco charge us less than £300 quid TPFT for me and my girlfriend for a 1994 3.1TD Bighorn import.
We do have full no claims and are over forty etc. but I still reckon that's pretty damn good value for money.

From today's Guardian:

Every little helps - so forget those Tesco quotes

"If you are one of Tesco Personal Finance's 5 million customers you may find this article rather disturbing. The unpleasant truth is you may well be over paying for your financial products. According to Guardian Money research this week, lots of Tesco's customers, automatically renewing their insurance products, are simply paying too much.

"Its car insurance can cost up to 30% more than the cheapest providers."

Hope this helps someone...

We had absolutely terrible service from Tescos following an accident my wife had in her Cherokee that was insured with them. They seemed determined to settle either in the other drivers favour or finally as knock for knock, despite the other driver IMO being at fault and changing his story twice, they were slow, unresponsive, did not keep us up to date with what was happening and took eight months to settle the claim as 50/50 after much pushing by which time we'd actually sold the car. At one point they asked us for some information whuich we sent them, four weeks later when we phoned to chase them up they hadn't even opened the envelope despite it being on the guys desk.

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole in the future.

Hmmm can't speak for Tesco but I've just had a row with Privilege who were one of the few to insure imports some years ago and I've been with them ever since (8 years). My renewal quote is £212 fully comp and when I told them about 2 fixed penalty speedings this year (cameras the b******s) they upped the compulsory excess to about £500 which was a bum, but worse, they upped the premium by £100 as well!!!

That is crazy because most companies discount 2 speedings and always have. It seems Privilege are cashing in on the Gatso boom! Be warned.

Oh, and by the way, Churchill has quoted £218 fully comp with speedings declared. Guess who's getting my business after so long with Privilege! What also stung, is that they couldn't give a toss on the phone. So much for loyalty. Joanna! I hope you're reading this!!!

we're with the Royal Bank Of Scotland and when told of my O/Hs speeding fine they charged an extra 33quid. At the moment he's waiting to see if he was caught on camera in Wales a couple of weeks ago Sad

Yeah, but up to 2 years ago, insurers didn't want to know about speeding offences, "don't count" they said. Now, not only are speeding fines a stealth tax for the Govt/police, but the insurers are jumping on the bandwagon and hiking premiums by as much as 33.3% for "minor speeding infractions". Insured through Churchill now who ignored the 2 fixed penalties and were only £6 dearer than my Privilege renewal quote.

Sorry to hijack the Tesco thread, but this makes me sooo angry!

we were with churchill untill two years ago. When I wanted to insure my daughter I couldn't so thats when I started to shop around. Got a quote from Tesco online but just as i was about to go ahead with it the Royal B.O.Scotland came up with a slightly better quote. But like you say Hard1 it gets me so angry that the insurance companies are now upping the premiums for speeding offences.

As far as I am aware an insurance company can't exclude greenlanes as they are public highways the same as any other road it's just they are unsurfaced, offroad on private land yes can be excluded but not byways. You need to be road legal on them so taxed insured and MoT'd
