Hello.
I wonder if anyone can give me some computer related advice please.
First off – I know nothing about computers or how they work inside.
What I would like to do is to wipe out my daughters computer system
and then to reinstall windows for her, the comp is very slow at the moment
and tried flushing it out with a AGV various thing.
So – I would like to buy a book which will guide me thro the process step
by step, must be idiot proof for me and easy to follow.
Do you know of a book or something that I could follow ? Also I want to find
out how to erase the present windows system which is in there now.
Drivers , this - that - and the others does my head in. I am always willing
to learn but I must say I’m finding it hard to understand these things.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated – I would like to learn how to do this.
Regards Ray. |

It's not a complex thing to do, but do you have a CD burner?
If so, before you do anything, backup ALL documents, bookmarks from web browsers, and other docs, else they will get lost / deleted.
Also if the PC is bought, go to the manufacturers web site, and download the drivers. -- -This might sound like jargon, but say, the PC is an Hewlett Packard - go to hp.com, and there will be a link for support and drivers (these are the applications which make things like your soundcard, monitor, modem, and other things work. You should end up at a page where you can download files (probably .exe's) save each one - and name it something sensible - the download page will say 'click here to download video drivers' and the filename will be something like 'nvida07062007.exe' which will mean nothing to you, so change the name of it to video driver.
When you've downloaded all of the drivers for the PC - save them to a CD
Once you've reinstalled windows - put the CD in your PC and run each driver install program one by one, you'll then be setting up all the hardware which you have inside the PC.
The first time you do it all, it will be a little strange, and you'll probably be hitting your head against a wall, but next time you do it - will be 2nd nature _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

hi mark and dxmedia, thankyou both for your replies !
will have alook for the disks in the morning, the computer is made from
different pieces, not all from the same company.
My girls computer does not have a cd burner, she maily just uses it for
her home work and chatting on MSN.
Will see what i can find tomorrow, i have a box here which i think is a
mother board box.. "amd sempron" it could be a game ? i dunno.
Well marky. thank for your very kind offer !! you are more than welcome
to call round one weekend soon.. oh yes, dont forget to have a peek at my lil zook !
Im fitting a shower room down staris - and my house is like a building site,
will have it finished in a couple of weeks, you can call in then if you like !
The dummies book looks good.. think i will look into buying one, hopefully
i can have a go at it myself in the future.

As long as it has a cd drive we can find all the data we need for drivers etc
Just make sure you have a proper copy of xp with it or its crunch time as you need a legit copy to register it. _________________ |

If it's a bitza, right click on the my computer icon on the desktop - click on manage - then click on device manager - make a note (pen and paper ) of whats under network adaptors, sound, video and game controllers, and display adaptors - Will come in handy if there is any need for getting drivers from else where.
Hope it all goes ok _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

The other thing is how full is the hard drive (right click then properties) If it is bang full then that would slow it down. You could try a spring clean then a disc clean up and a defrag. |

hi matt..
its quite a big disk, its 125 mega bites.. only about 20% full, lots of room left, tried the disk clean and a defragmentation,
its still very slow. must have something insiide of it pinching the power.
think a re-install is the best option.
Thanks for your suggestion - P.S. your troop looks great !

It may be she has picked up a spyware. Go to www.msn.com and type in the search field malicious spyware. It will bring up a link to the spyware removal tool. Click on it and follow the instructions. This will check the PC. Spyware has a habbit of making PC's rin slow.

Did it do a back up of what it took off, depending on what you have used, sometimes it can take the useful stuff off too, don't ask me how I know, though I was able to but mine back. _________________ Every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff from out of my brain.
