I should point out they don't normally get to sleep on the bed and are kennelled outside at night normally ! _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

Re: the american Bulldog.
The breed came about as a 'farmers utility dog' in America.. the farmers used whatever 2 dogs were best at the job they were required to do and bred them together.
Over the years, the breed was formed.
All sorts of breeds have been infused in the past, now it's not so common to outcross to another breed.
They are still used in the States as hog hunting dogs among other things.
While people liken them to the 'new pitbull', this is not the case at all. They are not bred as fighting dogs.
Re: weight-pull..
My 65lb dog (in the orange harness) pulls fractionally under 2000lb and the brindle girl (at 47lb) has pulled close to 1500lb.
We, as a team (Essex Dog Sport), run WP competitions in Essex which are sanctioned by a worldwide WP organisation. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

Thankyou for the reply, I was not labeling them as pitbull's though, sorry if it came across that way.
I used to have a black/brindle staffordshire bull terrier bit*ch and she was an amazing dog. _________________

Just one thing..... American BULLDOGS
We (AB owners) struggle against the pit bull thing constantly and an association may mean our dogs could be siezed under the dangerous dog act (1991) as a banned breed (the pit bull).
It's a very easy mistake to make with the name having American and Bull in it, but the 2 breeds really are worlds apart.
The pit bull being a much sturdier breed, less prone to physical and temperament issues.
Not only that, 4 AB's would cost you up to £4k. . . . probably better to get a winch, keep the food and vet bills down too _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

OK - here we go then!
The ginger one is a Toller (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) and the black and Tan is a Cavalier/Cocker Spaniel cross (aka Cockup Spaniel, Cockalier Spaniel or Comedy Dog)

All 3 of my AB's are rehomes. . .
Probably going to be looking for a couple of Border Collies next March/April. HAVE to be from working stock, preferably farm bred.
Trying to do anything with an AB is like trying to eat soup with a fork. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

Try getting an Akita to recall when there is something interesting the other side of the field- nightmare
Only way I managed it was to get the lab to recall (very easy) and the akita followed
its always nice to see people rehoming dogs just a shame there is the need to _________________ 3.0TD LWB Citation |

This is our 3rd AB... Ice.
A bit young to do very much with but she still tries hard, bless 'er
The beauty of all 3 dogs is that they were rehomed by their breeder.
Very nice (and equally rare) for a dogs breeder to take responsibility for its future should it need a home. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |
