When the Trooper was delivered a few days ago, I had ideas of some nice shiny things to bolt-on and dress it up.

Now I've done a little reading, learnt a bit, and have shifted somewhat to more functional add-ons.

So the question is...
What, in general, are the more acceptable (and unacceptable) mods to the Trooper (of course this is very subjective, but I'm curious as to how people think about these vehicles)..

Acceptable mods --- hehe

Scratches down the sides from bushes on lanes
Clay imbedded in impossible to remove parts of the chassis
Large chunks of steel attached anywhere which is deemed that protection 'may' be needed
Tyres which would seem more sutible on a dumper truck
boot full of bits of rope / chain / shackles / tools...
Suspension jacked up that high that there's no travel left and all your fillings are lying in the drivers footwell.

Non acceptable mods ---

Anything chrome which makes a trooper look like a pajero (sorry Mrs Trucker)

lol...

Already scrapped the chrome goody list...

I'm now thinking of front spots, a light rail on the roof, maybe some light protectors on the back, 1" lift and replace the worn out/rusting bits.
Perhaps seeing if some late spec front seats would fit/be nice.

Thinking a CB could be funky too. . . not too sure about that yet though.

You're a bit far away for seats but could do with a decent boot carpet

I shouldn't muck around with a one inch lift if I was you put two inch on then you will fit big tyres if you want to play in the future. Get all the rusty/worn out bits done and you will have a real nice place to start from Very Happy

Thats not entirely fair, there are shineys on here too.  My new one is a shiney although it does see mud now and again (and will see a lot more if we buy this new house up on the moors!)  It does however drag me, the wife and my twins up and down the autoroute to my place in France loaded up heavily often towing a hefty 6x4 trailer and once there hauls all sorts of building materials, *beep* to the tip etc.  Would I take it seriously off road? probably not, as I can't afford to break it and lets face it, if I wanted an off road toy my ideal choice would not be a lwb Trooper, I'd stick at least with a swb and probably opt for a cheap old Suzuki SJ.

My old MK1 Troop did see a lot more off road action, primarily because our  house over in France didn't have a road at that time so it got loaded up with all sorts of stuff and flogged through the mud, several times getting very stuck once requiring my neighbours tractor to extract it from our stream where it was mired up to the axles.  The back seat lived in our loft pretty much permanently and it was usually muddy and collected a good assortment of dents and scratches.

It's your motor so don't let anyone else dictate to you what is "cool" or "acceptable", if you want to bling it up with lots of chrome then do it, if you want a seriously modified off road machine then thats OK too.  I'm about to mount a very shiny stainless light bar to the front bumper and everyone knows that anything shiney adds at least 10bhp.

How does lifting the truck affect day-to-day driving and the occasional long-ish (120+ mile) trip?

Found 1 small patch of surface rust and that's it.

Other than that it's just a drivers seat, the trip on the door sill (all 4) and an aerial.. and a damn good clean  Cool

Very little difference with 2" especially as you will have just replaced the back shocks as part of the lift Wink

I hear ya Wink

Been modifying cars and bikes in one way or another since about '84..
Definitely 'tread my own path'....

I do, however, like things to be 'in keeping' if you catch my drift.

I like Shoguns all bling'd up... just doesn't seem 'fitting' for a Trooper.

Stainless steel is great though. . been looking at the stainless front bumper spot-light thingummy from Simmons Cool

Ive just fitted the stainless light bar from Simmonites, took me half an hour, the mounts just clear the end of the boxed in section behind the bumper so its dead easy just have to drill two holes in the bumper.  Just got to wire the lights up, hack into the loom to trigger them from the main beam and aim them properly.  It looks good too, very subtle.  My only concern is as I've fitted some pretty big lights is that I may need to take them off in the summer when I'm towing long distance in the hot, if thats the case I'll just get some small cheapies for the summer.
