|
|
Want to do a fluid service soon..
Just oil and anti-freeze.
But how much of each does the 3.1TD take?
Also, is a 10W40 semi-synth (Vx own brand) suitable?
Finally....
Is there any benefit to genuine filters (oil, fuel and air) over the Milner ones? _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

an irritating 6l of oil for a full change - Any 10 40 semi synthetic (good brand) which is sutiable for turbo disels will do.
For anti freeze, I generally put 5l in then top up with water. Not sure if this is the right mixture, but never blown a core plug. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

6L, does that include filter?
Would probably get ready-mixed coolant type stuff tbh.
Don't trust myself mixing ratios.
Will buy 10l. . . it's not more than 10l is it?? _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

From the handbook :-
Engine oil - 10w40 - this would cover the whole temp range as specified in the handbook. - 6 liters needed to fill with filter change
Manaul transmission and transfer box :- Engine oil sae 5w30 - at a temp constantly above 32c use sae 40
Front axel api-gl5 sae 90 or 80w - 90. If constantly below 10c use sae 80 or 80x - 90. Above 10c use sae 140
Rear axel - as above. Vehicles equiped with a slip diff use a libricant to the bove spec that have additives suitable for lsd's
Auto box - Special oil Dextron
Prop shaft joints - GM 4750 lithium based grease consistency No 2. with 7% soap
Other than the engine oil, there's no indication of the amount of each fluid needed to fill.
It's cheaper to buy concentrate - the stronget the better for a ratio - when I was in Minniapolis it was -40C and they just used straight anti freeze, no issues apart from a little more expensive than diluting it. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Just been checking Vx trade club. . . .
18L of 10W40 semi-synth is going to cost me £30 and a few pennies (inc. vat).
I'll get 3 oil changes out of that which will probably be a years worth.
Cheap as chips.
Will send the woman in for the oil and see if she can price up the filters from Vx too. . . otherwise it's off to Milners for them. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

That's a good deal on the oil, my Vx dealers don't keep anything though. _________________ Every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff from out of my brain.

I get my oil from partco in 20l cans... sounds very similar...
The only thing I'd suggest if it comes in a single can is decanting into gallon oil cans before trying to fill
far far less spillage. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

The oil comes in 4 x 4.5L cans
Really not looking forward to doing the 'box or diffs, they may have to wait a bit.
Maybe I'll feel a little better about doing them once I've clambered around underneath it a bit, seen how the 'land' lies.. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

Buy an oil syringe from Machine Mart to do the diffs and box, its about a tenner, holds 500cc and makes life much easier. _________________ Phil
