I have found a specialist with one in stock. It is the solenoid, it engages most of the time but occasionaly it does not engage fully, hence my problem! I am trying to get just the solenoid as it is all in really good condition except for not working?
They can get me a complete unit here for Monday if I order first thing, but who knows if they are just saying that.
If it can be made to work consistantly on the bench, I will get a new unit next time it stops and take a chance. I hope I can have my solenoid in time! |

it is the same starter as the 2.8/3.1
two bolts to remove the solenoid, attach the plunger arm to the solenoid and refit.
cost me a tenner in my local electro diesel specialist for a new one.
about 10 mins to fit |

I can't find anyone to sell me just the solenoid, but I am still looking. I think they would rather I spend £115 than £10 on the little bit I actually need to replace |

Ordered a new complete unit, being delivered on Monday, I hope!
My engine is not listed for solenoid anywhere, I have tried a lot of places!
My battery is now playing up with the cold, and I have discovered that a bad battery, alternator and starter motor solenoid often arrive together as each tries to componsate for the other and breaks. I will get a new battery too, do you think I need to check the alternator?
Also the Isuzu powered and other Vaxhauls are prone to the ignition switch causing the starter motor to wear out, and routinely replaced at the same time, is this an issue with Isuzus as well?
I am still suspicious of my after market immobiliser, made in Britain, why add that to a well built vehicle! I can see how it could reck the ignition circuit after I have discovered the reason why solenoids and alternators break! |
