|
|
Hi guys
I was just wandering how much of a difference to my MPG would changing the filters and oil make? After tracking down the previous owner of my bighorn,it seems this truck has not had it done in a very long time. my mpg seems very poor at the moment and i'm driving with a very light foot!! (£40 = 120 miles roughly) I knew when I got this car it was not going to be an economical runaround but I was hoping for better than this really. I'm going to explore all avenues to make it a little better on the go go juice as I have already decided this is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
Sorry for all the newbie questions.

Don't change the filters and oil to improve the economy, change them to stop the engine dying - if you leave for too long then thick oil is going to kill the bottom end and turbo (same with any diesel engine) _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Cheers guys
I knew that it would help to keep the engine in good shape so I was going to get it done anyway, but I was wandering if it would help with the economy too. It will be done as soon as possible that's for sure. Thanks for the reply guys I really appreciate it.

If the fuel filter and air fliter are really blocked then that might have quite a negative impact on the economy. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

I have a 1995 Monterey 3.1 TD with 93,00 on the clock and I change the oil and filter every 2500 and only use a basic mineral oil. I get anything between 30 and 33 mpg..the best it ever did was 34.1.. The worst was 29.2 but then I did tow a 2 ton Hobby caravan for about 10 miles
Cheers

It's as flat as a pancake, which will make a difference..it will be getting extensive use on the North Yorks Moors in the not too distant future so I wll see what effect that has
Cheers

I have lead feet so my mileage isn't great. It is, however, amazing what a good service will do to a neglected motor. I'd change the oil/filter twice in the normal service interval (so after a couple of thousand miles) to make sure it gets a good clean out. I'm not a great fan of engine flushes as they can loosen all sorts of crud. You may also find blocking off the EGR valves help. _________________ Phil

servicing has never increaced my mpg (but it's essential )
Using a good quality light engine oil will reduce friction within the engine, increasing mpg slightly _________________ 2011 3.0l Hilux Invincible

P.S. If any of you guys can think of anything else that might help with fuel consumption I will be grateful. |
